Remember to choose keywords carefully and to experiment with both broadened and narrowed synonyms. Google and other search engines search literally--for exactly what you enter.
Hints:
- Use "" around phrases, particularly, the name of certain works.
- Use a site/domain specific search to weed out poor sites.
- A search for
"alfred stieglitz" site:.edu
will find information only from .edu websites. Specificity can be further limited to specific domains, such as
"alfred stieglitz" site:.guggenheim.org
will find information about alfred stieglitz only as published on the website for the Solomon Guggenheim Museum
- Keep it simple! Putting too many keywords can limit your search, as in a search for: Alfred Stieglitz and photographs and ships and "museum exhibits" may miss the source you seek!
Remember, research is a process! You may need to try a number of searches in order to find the information you seek.
