What is BookTok?
★ Booktok, or #BookTok, is the name given to the community of book lovers, critics, and avid readers on TikTok, hence the name. It has grown parallel to the increasing popularity of the app itself, reaching rapid heights during the COVID-19 pandemic and its aftermath.
★ Your typical BookTok video will consist of the video's creator showing the book, usually heavily annotated, and rating it a "must-read" or a number out of 5.
★ Most books featured on BookTok are newly released contemporary fiction, but some classics have taken the stage, notably The Bell Jar by Slyvia Plath and Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brönte.
