Youth Friendly Mental Health Online Resources

  • Center for Young Women’s Health and Young Men’s Health: These websites provides a series of guides on emotional health, including on test anxiety, depression, bullying, and eating disorders. 
  • Go Ask Alice!: Geared at young adults, this question and answer website contains a large database of questions about a variety of concerns surrounding emotional health. www.goaskalice.columbia.edu
  • Girls Health.Gov: The "Your Feelings" section of this website offers guidance to teenage girls on recognizing a mental health problem, getting help, and talking to parents. 
  • Jed Foundation: Promoting emotional health and prevent suicide among college students, this website provides an online resource center, ULifeline, a public dialogue forum, Half of Us, and Transition Year, resources and tools to help students transition to college. 
  • Kelty Mental Health Resource Center: Reference sheets are provided that list top websites, books, videos, toolkits and support for mental health disorders. 
  • Reach Out: This website provides information on specific mental health disorders, as well as resources to help teens make safe plans when feeling suicidal, and helpful tips on how to relax. http://au.reachout.com/
  • Teens Health: Providing a safe place for teens who need honest and accurate information, this website provides resources on mental health issues. 
  • Teen Mental Health: Geared towards teenagers, this website provides learning tools on a variety of mental illnesses, videos, and resources for friends.

    • Mental Health in the LGBTQIA+ Community - Virtual Event - St. Louis County Library
      • Presented by Places for People.
      • Learn about mental health issues and disparities and their impact on the LGBTQ+ community, along with where to find emotional support and resources. In celebration of Pride Month.
        Adults. Registration required. Participants will receive Zoom information via email immediately after registering. A recording of this live virtual program will be posted to YouTube within three business days.

  • June 14, 2021 - 2-3pm
    • Managing Anxiety & Worry in Challenging Times - Virtual Program - St. Louis County Library
      • Presented by Mental Health America of Eastern Missouri.
      • Learn more about commonly used strategies for managing patterns of thought associated with worry and anxiety.
        Adults. Registration required. Participants will receive Zoom information via email immediately after registering. A recording of this live virtual program will be posted to YouTube within three business days.

  • June 2021 - All Month
    • Write and Dance Your Story Virtual Summer Camp - Virtual Program - St. Louis Public Library
      • Create a journal, write a story, and bring it to life through dance! For ages 10-14. Presented by Dayspring Arts. A computer or mobile device with camera and internet access will be required for the camp Zoom sessions. Camp supplies will be provided (except for common household items such as pencils or scissors) and will need to be picked up the week before the start of camp from Divoll Library (4234 N. Grand Blvd, 63107). If this camp switches to in-person, it will be held at Divoll Library.

Podcasts

Celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month with podcasts and shows that highlight women's global, political, cultural, economic, and social achievements across industries.

 

Mental Illness Happy Hour is a weekly podcast facilitated by former comedian Paul Gilmartin and addresses his own struggles with mental health. He regularly interviews therapists, listeners who struggle with various issues, even artists and celebrities. According to Psychology Today, Paul Gilmartin “Normalizes what so many others feel but have been too fearful or ashamed to express.” His desire is that through this podcast, he can help sufferers connect and feel a sense of hope.

The Dark Place offers a safe place where mental health sufferers can relate, share stories, express themselves openly and candidly about their struggles, their successes, and resources for help. This weekly podcast is a great place for parents and teens to hear the real-life difficulties that others face and to understand that they are not alone.

Everybody blurts is a podcast that revolves around the subject of depression including resources, support systems, and tips and suggestions to manage it to lead a successful life. Hosted by Jayne Hardy, Everybody blurts is touted as being the “helping hand” to someone who struggles with depression, covering both the practical and emotional challenges.

NPR While National Public Radio is not specifically targeted towards teens, there are many radio shows which address mental health issues such as substance abuse, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, treatment and options.

Teen Wealth is an inspirational podcast that regularly shares stories, tips, and advice about eating disorders, mental health, self-esteem and a host of other topics that teens are faced with.

The Youth Mentor Podcast, hosted by Amanda Rootsey, provides motivation and inspiration for teens struggling with mental health and their parents. Offering practical advice for how to maneuver through this crazy world, Rootsey shares additional assistance through the teen personal development school, “Shine From Within”.

SuperGirls Podcast is a weekly broadcast which shares young women’s struggles with their self-worth, and hopelessness, and helps them to see that they are not alone during these tough times. Host, Jackie Schlerf, walks teenagers through discovering their true potential, dealing with regrets, hope, and resiliency, and finding comfort along with dozens of other inspiring topics.
